HOW TO KNOW WHAT YOUR TYPE OF CURL IS?
To find out what type of curl you have, it is best to wash your hair and let it dry naturally, without styling products or heat tools. This way you can observe the natural tendency of your loops. On the other hand, you can know the state of your curly hair through these simple tests:
To see the elasticity, roll a damp strand around your fingers until it is taut, then let go. If it breaks, wrinkles or deforms, it is that it lacks hydration.
To determine the frequency of washing you can check the oiliness of the scalp with a mattifying paper (of those of the face). Press it on the hair roots one day after washing your hair. If you notice traces of oil, you may have to alternate the shampoo for the curly method with one with mild sulfates so that sebum does not accumulate
To check the type of products you need, measure the density of the hair by looking at whether the scalp is visible when you part it in the middle. If you can see it, it is best to use light products. If it is not visible, you will need oily products with extra hydration.
WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN WAVY AND CURLY HAIR?
Wavy hair (or curly type 2) is characterized by its more or less pronounced S shape, while curly hair is configured with defined curls. While curls are easily frizzy and dehydrated and require demanding care to make the curls look defined and elastic, wavy is much more affordable in maintenance.
HOW MANY TYPES OF CURLS ARE THERE?
Wavy and curly hair is classified into three groups with three types depending on the type of curl: a boc. While group 1 corresponds to wavy hair, group 2 is considered curly, and group 3, is Afro type. We explain them one by one.
TYPES OF CURLS: 2A
It is a wavy mane, therefore, with S-shaped hair, in which the waves are marked from the middle to the ends. It is usually rather fine hair that hardly requires styling products to take care of it. They are easy to smooth and docile. Ideal for playing with a thousand-and-one hairstyle!
TYPES OF CURLS: 2B
Although it is a wave with the same shape as the previous type, in this case, it begins to be marked higher up in the hair, giving rise to a thicker texture, with a certain tendency to frizz. These types of waves work well with light-hold creams that control frizz. If this is your case, use a serum to hydrate and give shine to the waves.
TYPES OF CURLS: 2C
In this type of hair, the waves start from the root and are somewhat more pronounced, so they have more volume. It is a type of curl that easily loses its shape, so it can be straightened well. So that it does not lose its original shape, hydration with masks will be essential. Also, use sulfate-, paraben-, and silicone-free shampoos and conditioners.
TYPES OF CURLS: 3A
Type 3 curls have a greater tendency to frizz and dehydration. In the case of curl 3a, it is one of the most manageable since it can even be straightened. It is characterized by a wide, elastic, and shiny ringlet that will express itself naturally if you take care of it according to the curly method. Only eligible products!
TYPES OF CURLS: 3B
In this case, the curl is smaller and more prone to frizz than 3a. Hence, the entanglements can become a headache. It is a porous hair with a dry touch that tends to lose control of the volume. In this case, it is best to opt for shampoos without sulfates, silicones, drying alcohols, or waxes, as well as leave-in conditioners to obtain a natural volume.
TYPES OF CURLS: 3C
This is a much smaller curl that is difficult to straighten without a frizzy or wavy finish. Controlling the volume of this hair is usually complicated because they are thicker curls and tend to dry out. Therefore, they need less frequent washing. Use dry shampoos to control oil at the roots and oil serums to nourish and shine between washes.
TYPES OF CURLS: 4A
Type 4 curls are considered Afro-types and are identified by their zigzag shape and fluffy texture. In the case of 4a, it is a very coiled and very fragile curl that will need creams and lotions to obtain a definition. To style it, the finger coil technique (rolling the strands with your fingers when applying the cream) will be ideal. And to untangle it, don’t forget the wide-toothed comb.
TYPES OF CURLS: 4B
What characterizes this type of curl is the irregular pattern, also in the form of a zigzag, but little or nothing is defined in some areas. If this is your case, to avoid frizz you will need to moisturize it at each step of the care routine. You will also take better care of it if you use a pillowcase or a silk cap to sleep.
TYPES OF CURLS: 4C
It is the type of Z-shaped curl, more closed and difficult to define with the hairstyle. It gives rise to dense and tight manes, but of great fragility. All the products in the care routine must be moisturized so that when combing it, it does not break. The fitagem technique is ideal for styling this type of hair.
