What to see in Warsaw in one day 2020?

Warsaw is one of the most popular cities to visit in Poland. In 2015 it was visited by almost 10 million tourists from all over the world.

So, here is travel guide to Warsaw with things to see and do in one day, with prices and itinerary and a map at the end. Let’s find out what to see in Warsaw in a day 2020.

But first, something to know about Warsaw.

Things to know about Warsaw

Warsaw is the capital of Poland and the largest city in the country with around 2 million people living there.

It is located east of central Poland. It has a convenient location, from where you can reach the main tourist cities of Poland by 2.5-3 hours by train: Wroclaw, Poznan, Gdansk and Krakow.

How to plan a perfect trip to Warsaw

Planning a trip to Warsaw is relatively simple. There are two airports in the city, Chopin and Modlin. The first is located within the city limits and can be easily reached by bus or train.

The second is located outside the city and the low-cost options are very convenient (bus + bus or train + bus). I suggest you book an airport transfer in case you choose the latter!

What to see in Warsaw in one day

I will cover all the interesting places to visit in Warsaw, both typical and unusual and I will tell you about the prices of accommodation, food, attractions and transport in the capital based on my experience.

Start with the city center. It’s not great, you can go through it in 30 minutes, but don’t be in a hurry, enjoy the weather, take some wonderful photos. Visit the Warsaw museum on Old Town Square. Your visit should not last more than an hour, however, stop, it really deserves!

Along the way to the center, you will be tempted by different smells of traditional Polish dishes and a thousand other delicacies. You can try gofry (Polish waffles usually with fruit, whipped cream or jam) or pierogi (dumplings stuffed with meat, vegetable jam). The latter are truly a delight!

Your visit to Warsaw will continue from Castle Square

Stop in the picturesque Castle Square (plac Zamkowy), where you can also see the Royal Castle. Continue along Krakowskie Przedmieście street and you will see the President’s Palace and the University of Warsaw on the left.

Approach the river. You will see the University Library where you can enter and climb on the roof with large gardens and beautiful views of Warsaw free (one of the secret attractions of the city that only the locals know and now you too!).

Next, you can go to the Copernicus Science Center, which is located very close to the library. You could spend a whole day there, but 2-3 hours may be enough for you.

The next stop is more than 3km away, so I suggest using the bus. Google Maps may work to control transportation in Warsaw.

The next stop is the Łazienki Królewskie park. There is also the Legia Warszawa football stadium nearby. The park is probably the best place to rest and spend time in peace.

The next place to visit in Warsaw is the Palace of Culture and Science, one of the characteristic buildings of the Polish capital, which was built in the Soviet style in 1955, and is still the tallest building in Poland.

Nearby is the main railway station connected to the Złote Tarasy shopping center (which is always full of people).

End your day in the best way: Relax

Just visit the city. Time to relax on Nowy Świat street. The street is full of bars and restaurants. You can choose any of them, but for something authentic, I recommend Pawilony (Nowy Świat 22/28) and a chain of cheap Soviet-style bars in Poland called Pijalnia Wódki i Piwa.

As you can see, the Polish capital has a great choice of things to do and very low prices, which makes it clear why the city is so popular with tourists.

We hope you enjoyed this one-day itinerary in the Polish capital!

Have a good trip!
