iPad Pro or Microsoft Surface Pro 3

As much as one can criticize or praise the new iPad Pro, the fact is that the new Apple tablet should be from the point of view of the Microsoft Surface Pro 3, it is the true rival, and Apple’s goal with this new iPad Pro. The question is which of the two is better?

What are the differences?

Best of all is that eventually you who decide what is best. Our only task is limited to compare the two devices and give you all the data. Let’s go talking about some of the differences between them.

Display: The great features of the iPad Pro are the screen, which leaves behind the 10 – inch iPad Air to reach 12.9 inches, with which almost becomes a MacBook. This screen size is higher than the Surface Pro 3, because the screen is 12 inches. However, a lower or upper size does not have to be something positive or negative. From my point of view, since it is a large tablet, almost I prefer to be 12.9 inches. However, more relevant in the case of the screen is the resolution: 2,742 x 2,048 pixels in the case of the iPad Pro, with a pixel density of 265 pixels per inch, 2,160 x 1,440 pixels in the case of Microsoft Surface Pro 3 with a pixel density of 216 pixels per inch. Indeed the screen iPad Pro is of higher quality than the Surface.

Processor: When talking about the technical components of the device, we find that the iPad Pro features an Apple A9X processor, similar to the iPhone 6s, although improved, while the Microsoft Surface Pro 3 is available with three processors, Intel Core i3, i5 and i7. Processors Surface Pro 3 are higher level than the iPad Pro, as they are processors of a computer level. In fact, the MacBook Pro, iMac and Mac Pro feature Intel Core i5 and i7 processor. To this, it should be added that the iPad Pro has a RAM of 4 GB, while the Microsoft Surface Pro 3 has a RAM of 4 GB for its basic version, but you can select a version with RAM of 8 GB.

Operating System: Determinant for me is also the operating system. While Microsoft Surface Pro 3 has Windows 10, the iPad Pro features iOS 9. This latest operating system is designed only for tablets and smartphones, while Windows 10 is designed for computers, tablets and smartphones, and in this case, we can offer closer to that of a computer experience.

Battery: Apple could have gotten your iPad Pro has greater autonomy than the Microsoft Surface Pro 3 although this cannot be confirmed until you cannot analyze, the fact is that based on what they say the two companies on their devices. The iPad Pro has more autonomy than 10 hours, the Surface Pro 3, and 9 hours.

Connectivity: Although both devices have the same wireless Bluetooth and WiFi connectivity, yes I would highlight the fact that the iPad Pro has only one Lighting jack, and a magnetic socket for the keyboard. The Microsoft Surface Pro 3 is a device like a computer, and includes USB 3.0 jacks, headphones, Mini Display Port and microSD card reader.

Cameras: Although not as relevant in a tablet, especially large one, I must say that the two tablets have two cameras, a main and a front. In the case of the iPad Pro, these cameras are 8MP, in the case of the principal and 1.2 megapixels in the case of the front. The Microsoft Surface Pro 3 has two 5 – megapixel cameras (main and front).

Price: Although the Microsoft Surface Pro 3 has different versions and different configurations, will take as a reference the most basic version is the one that most closely resembles the iPad Pro with Intel Core i3, RAM 4 GB processor and a 64 GB internal memory. The iPad Pro, with an internal memory of 32 GB, is priced at $ 800, the same in American currency as the Microsoft Surface Pro 3, so it is likely to cost the same in dollars. Reaching the version of 128 GB in the case of the iPad Pro will have to reach $ 949, while in the case of Microsoft Surface Pro 3 will have to spend 1,109 dollars, but including and the Intel Core i5 processor. To this should still be added to the price of the additional keyboard in both cases is around 150 dollars. The Apple Pencil cost about 90 dollars, and the Surface Pen is priced at 50 dollars.

What should I buy?

Actually, buy one or the other will depend mostly on what it is we are looking at that device. If we want a device acting as a laptop with almost all the features of a computer, that is the Microsoft Surface Pro 3. The iPad Pro is a special tablet, perhaps for creative professionals who require interface and the operating system of an iPad, but with a large screen. One can say that the Microsoft Surface Pro 3 is a computer within a tablet, while the iPad Pro is a tablet with the Microsoft format Surface Pro 3.
