Are you fed up with TV series and movies? Then jump into the action with a nice video game! In this article we offer 15 of them, all very different but with one thing in common: they are free games! You can download them – on your PC or on the PS4, Xbox One and Nintendo Switch consoles – without spending a penny, starting immediately to play. Many of these are also multiplayer, so you can play with your friends. Some of you will notice the absence of famous titles – Fortnite, TERA, Counter-Strike: Global Offensive, DOTA 2, League of Legends or SMITE – which we decided not to put on the list as it would have been perhaps superfluous. Fortunately, our choices include practically all genres, so you will find various FPS, Battle Royale, strategy, driving games and more.
Call of Duty: Warzone (PC, PS4, Xbox One)
The Battle Royale of CoD, available free to all on different platforms. A stand-alone game that derives from the recent Call of Duty: Modern Warfare but distorts its rules, bringing the player into a very different game experience. There are two modes: the classic Battle Royale, in which whoever remains alive to the end wins, and the Swag mode, where you need to accumulate as much money as possible.
Destiny 2 (PC, PS4, Xbox One)
Bungie’s game had a particular destiny in its early years, but has now established itself as one of the best online first-person shooters, becoming a true cornerstone as far as game as a service is concerned. Continually updated and filled with new content, it takes the player into a distant and hyper-technological future, where different factions fight to dominate the universe. The sci-fi atmosphere and the various game modes are very accurate; the gameplay is perfect for FPS fans.
Warframe (PC, PS4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch)
The atmospheres seem similar to those of Destiny 2, but here we fight in a more physical way. Warframe is in fact a third person MMO in which hand-to-hand combat and agile movements count a lot, even if there is no shortage of firearms and throwing weapons. The missions and objectives aim to accumulate money, unlock weapons and explore new planets, with different modes for both single player and multiplayer. Available for all major platforms, it gives its best if played in a group with your friends.
Splitgate: Arena Warfare (PC)
First-person shooter based on the classic “arena” gameplay: many players collide on closed maps and try to make as many eliminations as possible. The atmospheres resume science fiction in the Halo style but join a system of portals inspired by Portal, thanks to which you can navigate the map and take enemies by surprise.
Paladins (PC, PS4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch)
Game similar to Overwatch, for lovers of shooters in first person. The gameplay is based on the heroes and their different abilities. There are three different game modes, all online multiplayer in version 5 on 5. The competitive part is very accentuated.
Dauntless (PC, PS4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch)
It is defined as a sort of Monster Hunter in a free-to-play version and the comparison does not go very far from the truth. If you like hunting huge creatures with fangs, claws or other dangerous growths, this may be the new MMO for you. The sample of weapons, armor and customizations of each character is truly vast, as are the possibilities for winning each fight.
Auto Chess / Teamfight Tactics (PC)
Two very similar games, both based on the mode Auto Chess of DOTA 2. The first bears the exact same name and is based on the famous characters of Valve’s MOBA. The second is instead set in the universe of League of Legends and presents the heroes of this saga. The mechanics, however, are the same: 8 players challenge each other in a series of one-on-one games, going from elimination to elimination until only one remains. The gameplay provides a virtual chessboard where your characters are positioned, who fight alone against those lined up by the rival. You can use items and power ups, also combining the same characters to level them up. Easier to play than to explain, so jump right into your favorite universe and start a game.
Brawlhalla (PC, PS4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch)
A fighting game could not be missing from our list. Brawlhalla takes inspiration from games like Super Smash Bros. but it has a more comic and exaggerated design, with characters and settings from many different universes: there are ninja, orcs, Vikings, knights, magicians and even Lara Croft. You fight on platforms and arenas hovering over nothing, there are objects and power-ups to use, each hero has his own unique style.
Fallout Shelter (PC, PS4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch)
Playable practically anywhere – even on mobile devices – this small management software has become a drug for millions of users, thanks to its simple mechanics to learn and a gameplay full of characters, irony and choices. The fact that it is set in the Fallout universe only makes it even more likeable.
Hearthstone: Heroes of Warcraft (PC)
Produced by Blizzard Entertainment and set in the world of Warcraft, Hearthstone is one of the most played and loved virtual card games in the world. Inside we find the textures and atmospheres of the Warcraft series, with all the characters well known by enthusiasts, but there are also new novelties. The heart of the game, however, is the game itself, which confronts two players with their decks, engaging them in a challenge at the last life point. The title is free-to-play for everyone, but there are many paid expansions.
Legends of Runeterra (PC)
The new card game based on the League of Legends universe. In essence, Riot Games’ response to Hearthstone and the world of Warcraft. The formula is in fact very similar: two players face off by deploying their champions on the field and trying to destroy each other. The strategy and knowledge of the units to be deployed is very important, so a good dose of tactical intelligence is required to become good players.
Asphalt 9: Legends (PC, Nintendo Switch)
Born as a mobile game, evolved as a real world phenomenon, the Asphalt series is one of the most played ever when it comes to arcade driving games. In this list we put it not so much as a PC title, but more than anything else because it is one of the few free racing games for Nintendo Switch, therefore a unique opportunity for those who have this console. If you like cars, especially super fast ones, you can give it an opportunity.
TrackMania Nations Forever (PC)
More than a driving simulator, a sort of puzzle based on physics and speed. This very special edition of TrackMania dates back to 2008 but it is still a very valid and highly played title all over the world. You play alone, with your Formula 1 style car, and you have to get to the end of each track making the best possible time. But be careful of the online multiplayer mode, which allows you to challenge your friends in personalized championships.
Tetris 99 (Nintendo Switch)
Nobody would have said it, but Tetris’ Battle Royale proved to be one of the most successful, immediately involving millions of players around the world. Not a big deal, since it’s a Nintendo Switch exclusive! The gameplay is exactly the historical one of Tetris, with the only (big) difference that 98 other players compete in online multiplayer and only the last that remains in the game wins.
Fishing Planet (PC)
If you can’t go fishing in the real world, you can at least do it virtually with this game! It is a very complete and highly supported title. It relies heavily on the realism of the equipment and of the gaming environments, but it can also be used just to relax and spend a few minutes of tranquility.
