The new generation of the Mercedes-Benz G-Class, which until now was only available in versions G 500 and G 63 AMG gasoline, already offers a diesel variant or Mercedes-Benz G 350 D, with a six-cylinder engine that, moreover, is the most frugal and efficient Class G to date.
Available for reservations as of January 2019, the first turbodiesel G-Class units will begin to be delivered in the spring of next year, and as is logical, their motorization complies with the new Euro 6D-TEMP regulations.
We speak of a diesel engine 3.0 liters of six cylinders in line with internal name OM 656, which offers a power of 286 HP and a maximum torque of 600 Nm between 1,200 and 3,200 rpm. According to the brand, the stepped-bowl design of the pistons contributes to a more efficient combustion, together with the CAMTRONIC variable valve elevation system.
For the first time, the motor supports are active and controlled electronically, so that they adjust accordingly (softer below 5 km / h) depending on the speed. This Class G of access to the range, by the way, accelerates from 0 to 100 km / h in 7.4 seconds and reaches a maximum speed of 199 km / h.

Among the measures to reduce emissions, this version has a catalyst, particulate filter, selective catalytic reduction (SCR) through AdBlue or exhaust gas recirculation. In addition, there is also no need for a “sail” driving function in Eco mode, which makes it possible to decouple the transmission from the engine to reduce friction and maintain the vehicle’s inertia more easily.
And speaking of transmission, this six-cylinder is associated with a 9G-Tronicautomatic, torque converter and nine-speed box, which incorporates a transfer case. The total traction is permanent and, of course, there is also a gearbox and the three lockable differentials typical of the model. The average consumption is between 9.6 and 9.8 liters per hundred kilometers.
